Robert L. “Bob” Stone

FRANKLIN

Robert L. “Bob” Stone, 86, passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, at Christina Place in Franklin. He was a former resident of Morgantown.

Robert was born March 11, 1929, in Indianapolis, to the late Walter S. and Thelma (Farrington) Stone.

He was a 1948 graduate of Gerstmeyer T.H. High School and went on to serve his country with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

After the war, Robert married Lois M. Strattan on April 10, 1953, in Indianapolis. Together they raised two children, Leann and Bradley. She preceded him in death Oct. 7, 2011, after 58 devoted years of marriage.

Robert earned his M.S.E from Indiana State University in 1955. He later earned his master’s degree from Indiana University in 1965.

Robert retired from Whiteland High School in 1991, after 31 years of service in the art department.

Bob was an elder in the Christian Church for many years. His hope was not in the temporal, but in his Master.

He was a member of the Indiana State Teachers Association, Johnson County Retired Teachers Association and the Country Wood Carvers in Martinsville.

Robert enjoyed painting, drawing and spending time with his family. Robert was an accomplished and respected woodworker, woodcarver and painter and restored two Victorian homes with his wife.

Robert leaves behind a son, Bradley (Brenda) Stone; a daughter, Leann (Daniel) Banta; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Judy White; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Lois; parents, Walter and Thelma; and brother, Ted F. Stone.

The Rev. Nelson Lee will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St., Morgantown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown with military rites presented by the Martinsville American Legion.
