Eugene “Ray” Ader

INDIANAPOLIS

Surrounded by his family, Eugene “Ray” Ader of Indianapolis went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016.

Born April 23, 1933, in Hammond, Ray was the son of George and Beatrice Ader.

He graduated from Bishop Noll Catholic High School, Hammond, in 1951.

He served four years in the U.S. Air Force.

He was joined in Holy Matrimony on July 28, 1956, to Mary Schmidt.

He retired in 2003 from a career in the agricultural feed business.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his two brothers, Richard and Robert Ader; a son-in-law, Russell Gordon; and daughter-in-law, Sandy Ader.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years; his eight children, Mary Bratager, Terri VanDeman (Brian), George Ader (Diana), Kathy Sheaffer (Glenn), Bill Ader (Michelle), Margie Kaus (Rich), Joe Ader (Jamie) and Tim Ader (Jennifer); 28 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He loved bragging about his children and grandchildren. Ray never met a stranger, and he will be remembered for his great sense of humor. He was a wonderful father and grandfather.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to American Diabetes Association, Dementia Society of America, or Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday with a Rosary at 7 p.m. at Daniel F. O’Riley Funeral Home in Indianapolis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church with calling there from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
