Engineers too much for FC women’s team

Engineers upend Grizzlies

TERRE HAUTE — The Franklin College women’s basketball team dropped to 9-4 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play with a 54-41 loss to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Wednesday.

The first half featured two big scoring runs. Franklin opened the game on a 12-0 run before the Fightin’ Engineers scored 19 of the next 22 points.

A 3-point field goal by junior Lauren DeSutter cut Rose-Hulman’s lead to two points, 19-17, at halftime.

The Grizzlies trailed 34-30 heading into the fourth quarter, but the hosts scored 20 points in the final frame to secure the victory.

DeSutter scored a game-high 14 points to lead the offensive attack. Junior Kayle Comer added nine points.

Franklin returns to action at 2 p.m. Saturday when it travels to Defiance College.
