A Franklin man has pleaded guilty to child molestation and now has to serve 25 years in prison and register as a sex offender.
Police said Robert Mains, 24, inappropriately touched a girl younger than 14 years old. He has plead guilty to child molesting, a Level 1 felony.
Mains reached a plea agreement with the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office, which included spending 25 years in prison, a protection order keeping him away from the victim, registering as a sex offender with the state and not walking closer than 1,000 feet to school property, according to the plea agreement.
Mains turned himself into the police last year after the girl’s mother confronted Mains about the inappropriate actions. He told police that he touched her and performed sexual acts on her.
If Mains did not reach a plea agreement with the prosecutor’s office, he was facing 20 and 40 years in prison and a $10,000 fine if convicted.
