Needham names temporary principal

A former superintendent will temporarily lead Needham Elementary School.

Kent Pettet, who has led the Franklin school for eight years, will become the principal of Bunker Hill Elementary School, which is part of the Franklin Township school district in Indianapolis. Pettet announced his departure earlier this month.

This week, Franklin schools named James Halik as the interim principal until a permanent replacement for Pettet can be found.

Halik previously served as the principal for Custer Baker Intermediate School from 1983 to 1987, and was Franklin’s superintendent from 1994 to 2004.

Franklin schools are accepting applications for the principal position until Feb. 12.
