Unbeaten Bluffton too much for Franklin women

Senior Katie Brewer scored 20 points, but it was not enough Saturday for the Franklin College women’s basketball team.

The Grizzlies lost 75-56 at Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference leader Bluffton University.

Bluffton improved to 17-0 and 10-0 in league play.

Bluffton shot 53.6 percent from the field and made 7 of 14 three-point field goal attempts.

Brewer led Franklin (11-6, 7-3 HCAC) with 20 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Kelsey Smith added 13 points.

Freshman Maddie O’Day scored eight points off the bench for the Grizzlies.

Bluffton led 21-13 after the first quarter and held a 39-29 advantage at intermission. The Beavers scored 18 points in both the third and fourth quarters to pick up the victory.

Franklin returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts HCAC rival Manchester.
