Man runs from law enforcement

Police chased a man who had a warrant for his arrest through neighborhoods on the east side of Greenwood on Saturday.

Multiple officers and police dogs came to the area of Stop 18 and Sheek roads after police said a Greenwood man ran from officers during a traffic stop at 10:30 a.m.

Larry L. Summers II, 35, 559 Greenway St., was wanted on a warrant from Marion County for theft. When his vehicle was stopped by an officer, he took off, Greenwood Police Assistant Chief Matt Fillenwarth said.

Police said Summers ran in between homes in Central Park, Copperfield South and Beacon Pointe apartment complex. Residents spotted a man running through their neighborhoods and called 911, which allowed officers to follow him, Fillenwarth said.

Officers set up a perimeter around the neighborhoods to keep the man from running further, Fillenwarth said. Police dogs tracked Summers into Copperfield South, where he was arrested on Boxwood Lane at 10:48 a.m., Fillenwarth said.

Summers was arrested on a charge of resisting a police officer and taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was held without bond.
