Hot shooting propels Franklin women to win

The Franklin College women’s basketball team made a season-high 12 three-point field goals in picking up a 72-49 road win Saturday at Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Mount St. Joseph University.

Franklin (9-4, 5-1 HCAC) used a 14-5 run during the third quarter to break open the game after leading 30-29 at halftime.

The Grizzlies outscored the Lions 28-14 during the third quarter. The 28 points were the most scored in a single quarter this season.

Franklin made six three-point field goals during the third quarter.

Junior Lauren DeSutter led the strong outside shooting performance with four three-point field goals. She scored a team-high 16 points.

Senior Katie Brewer added 12 points and five rebounds. Junior Kayle Comer scored 10 points to round out the team’s double-figure scoring attack.

Four different players made two or more three-point field goals in the contest.

Saturday’s game was the second of three straight road conference games. The Grizzlies picked up a 51-28 win at Manchester University three days earlier.

Franklin concludes the road swing Wednesday at Transylvania University.
