Larry James Smith Sr.

EDINBURGH

Larry James Smith Sr., 66, of Edinburgh, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 14, 1949, in Johnson County, to James Russell Smith and Sallie Mae (Burton) Smith.

Larry is survived by his mother, Sallie Mae Smith of Edinburgh; his wife of 41 years, Pamela Jo (Suhre) Smith; sons, Larry James “Junior” (Jodie) Smith, Timothy Craig Smith and Matthew Shane (Michelle) Smith, all of Edinburgh; brothers, Jerry Dale (Louise) Smith and Terry Lee Smith, both of Edinburgh; sisters, Bonita (Dennis) Martin, Angela (Tim) Burton and Genivieve (Terry) Burton, all of Edinburgh; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Russell Smith; a son, Kenneth Allen Smith; and grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins he loved so very much.

He worked for the government, insulating homes for 12 years at Human Services. He then started a business called Custom Pine Cabinets and Crafts. He made cabinets, bedroom sets and a lot of different crafts for more than 13 years.

Larry was a member of Edinburgh Assembly of God Church. He started two churches and a soup kitchen. Another ministry he loved was passing out Gospel tracts all over. He had compassion for everyone and prayed for anyone who came to his door and went to those who could not come to him. He was a true man of God.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Edinburgh Assembly of God Church, 904 S. Holland St., with the Rev. Matt Eckart and the Rev. Don Whetstine officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery, Edinburgh.
