Anne K. (Winter) Trankle

FRANKLIN

Anne K. (Winter) Trankle, age 97, passed away Friday morning, Jan. 1, 2016, at the Franklin United Methodist Community. She was a resident of Franklin.

Anne was born Oct. 11, 1918, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Angus and Mabel (Kriebel) Winter. She was raised in Maplewood, New Jersey, and graduated in 1936 from Columbia High School. Anne went on to become a proud graduate of Penn State University, earning a degree in bacteriology in 1940.

Anne served as a pharmacist’s mate first class during World War II, serving in the WAVES of the U.S. Navy at the Brooklyn Navy Yard Hospital. While there, she met Robert Trankle of Rapid City, South Dakota, who was also serving in the U.S. Navy.

They were married in Rapid City on Oct. 25, 1946. As Robert completed his education, they lived in Vermillion, South Dakota; Omaha, Nebraska; and Iowa City, Iowa. They have been residents of Franklin since 1963.

Anne worked as a lab technician at Atterbury Job Corps and at the office of Dr. Hugh Andrews. She also worked as a med tech at the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin.

Anne was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Franklin and active in the AAUW. She enjoyed volunteering at the Johnson County Museum of History and also taught children how to knit at the Franklin Girls Club.

Anne is survived by her husband, Robert Trankle of Franklin; three daughters, Elizabeth (Keith) Mardis of Springfield, Missouri, Janet (Bill) Phillips of Mitchell and Nancy (Bill) Kirklin of Franklin; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sisters and their husbands, Irma (Hank) McCall of West Palm Beach, Florida and Mary Janet (Paul) Damon of Tucson, Arizona.

The Rev. Peter Jessen will conduct a celebration of life service at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Wright Chapel of the Franklin United Methodist Community, 1070 W. Jefferson St., Franklin. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday.

Funeral services have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
