Nineveh driver killed in crash near Atterbury

A Nineveh man was killed in an accident near Camp Atterbury.

The accident happened just after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hospital and River roads. The intersection is just west of U.S. 31 and near the military installation west of Edinburgh, according to a news release from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

Lonnie A. Sizemore, 49, was killed when the vehicle he was driving went off the road and flipped over. Sizemore was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash, the release said.

A witness told police Sizemore’s vehicle was heading west on Hospital Road and suddenly crossed the center line. Police suspect Sizemore then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to roll on its side, according to the police report and the news release.

Sizemore was thrown from the vehicle in the crash and was also pinned under the vehicle, the report said. He was taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin, where he was pronounced dead.

Police are investigating the crash, and an accident reconstructionist was brought to the scene.

Investigators are not sure what caused Sizemore to cross the center line of the road.
