Mona “Charlene” (Graves) Heiney

MORGANTOWN

Mona “Charlene” (Graves) Heiney, age 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, Dec. 19, 2015, at her home in Morgantown.

She was born on Oct. 21, 1936, in Franklin, to the late Charles E. and Dorothy M. (Dugan) Graves.

Charlene was a 1955 graduate of Franklin High School and worked during her teens and early twenties at G.C. Murphy’s and the Fertig’s Ice Cream Shop, both in Franklin.

She married Keith Heiney on May 21, 1955, in Franklin. He preceded her in death on Feb. 19, 2002, after 46 loving years of marriage. In 1963, Charlene and her husband moved to Morgantown where she taught kindergarten and worked at the local IGA store. Charlene also held a clerical position for attorney Roy Dickenson and the same position for accountant Don Jones, both of Franklin.

Charlene was a 40-year member of the Morgantown First Christian Church.

She enjoyed traveling, especially to Alaska, Maine and Walt Disney World. Charlene loved to work in her flower and vegetable gardens and watched the many deer and wild turkeys that regularly visited her backyard. She will be remembered as a very generous, strong-willed woman who loved her family deeply.

Charlene is survived by her children, Charles (Kelli) Heiney of Nineveh, Teresa Ross of Covington, Christi Heiney of Morgantown and Ronna (Larry) Bemis of Newport; sister, Elaine (Ronald) Thompson of Franklin; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Heiney; grandson, Jensen Heiney; and a son-in-law, Danny Ross.

In keeping with Charlene’s wishes, there will be no public services.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
