Nellie Irene Simon

Nellie Irene Simon, 102, passed away Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. She was a lifelong resident of Franklin.

She was born Jan. 28, 1913, in Franklin to Edward L. and Ellen A. (Pool) Simon.

Nellie is survived by 10 nieces and nephews, Melinda Frazier, Clarellen Kelsey, Thomas E. Simon, Martha Vawter, Richard Simon, Barbara Simon, Charles Simon, Linda Hancock, George E. Simon and M. Gail Simon; and many great- and great-great-nieces and great- and great-great-nephews.

She also is survived by one great-great-great-niece, who was born on her birthday when she turned 100. She so enjoyed playing tea party with her when she would visit Nellie.

She was preceded in passing by her parents; siblings, Effie Sims, Samuel Simon, Thomas Simon, Charles Simon, John B. Simon and Helen Simon; and nieces and nephews, Zoe Dona Simon, John Simon, Betty Lieske, Dorothy Moore and Gordon Simon.

She was a 1931 graduate of Hopewell Academy near Franklin.

Nellie worked on the family farm raising chickens and pigs.

She was a member of Christian Chapel Church. She loved her dogs.

The Rev. Larry McAdams will conduct a celebration of Nellie’s life at 2 p.m. Saturday at Flinn & Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St. (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
