Michael Allen McCarty

Michael Allen McCarty, 63, of Columbus, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis.

He was born Aug. 19, 1952, in Columbus to Ward Allen and Norma I. (Ogilvie) McCarty of Columbus.

He married Patty I. (Churchill) McCarty; and she survives.

He is survived by his parents; his wife; sons Craig Allen McCarty of Greenwood, Scott Michael McCarty of Dallas and Zachariah Allen Cordes of North Vernon; stepdaughters, Amy (David) Long of Franklin and Sarah (Michael) Denk of Indianapolis; sisters, Mary Ann (Tyrone) Tuttle and Tammy (Gary) Seymour, both of Seymour; grandchild, Camrin C. Allen McCarty; stepgrandchildren, Matthew, Ryan, Seth, Ethan, Eli and Addyson; nephews, Matthew and Brett Boilanger; and great-aunt, Isla Richards of Columbus.

He was a 1970 graduate of Franklin Community High School.

He was a member of Bible Church of Columbus, Mid Hoosiers Officials Association and the National Rifle Association.

He retired in 2005 after 35 years of service from Cummins Inc. in Columbus. He then was a school bus driver for three years for Edinburgh Community School Corp.

He enjoyed going to Fort Myers, Florida, refereeing basketball games, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, hunting and celebrating the Fourth of July; and he especially enjoyed his dogs, Willy, Wally and Billie Girl.

Mike was also an organ donor.

The Revs. Jerry Day Sr. and David Marvin will conduct a service at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bible Church of Columbus, 3010 10th St. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Mike’s wishes were for cremation after the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, the Salvation Army or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Arrangements are being handled by Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh.
