Charles Lee ‘Chuck’ Hammond

Charles Lee “Chuck” Hammond, 76, passed away at 3:50 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015, at his Franklin residence.

He was born Jan. 27, 1939, in Columbus, the son of Charles D. Hammond and Emma Mae (Harrison) McNutt. He was raised in Westport and moved to Franklin in 1993.

Chuck graduated from Sandcreek High School in 1958 and was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He was a truck driver, retiring in 2004. He drove for Merchant Metals and J&W Fence in Indianapolis.

Chuck enjoyed sports, especially NASCAR, Pacers, boxing and the Colts.

He married Anita L. Sweeney on Aug. 3, 1962, in Kittery, Maine; and she survives.

He also is survived by two daughters, Nina L. Perez and Scharlotte L. Quantz, both of Indianapolis; three sons, Charles L. Hammond II of Franklin, David L. (JoLynn) Hammond of New Whiteland and Franklin L. (Jennifer) Hammond of Indianapolis; two sisters, Norma Meredith of Indianapolis and Linda Cooney of Columbus; 16 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home, 402 E. Bennett St. in Westport. The Rev. Steve Malone will officiate. A time of visitation will be from 4 p.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. Following his wishes, Charles will be cremated and will be buried at Springer Cemetery at Elizabethtown on a later date.
