James Isaac Shipley, 91, of Greenwood, passed peacefully into rest Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015, at his son’s residence in Pennsylvania.

James was born June 9, 1924, in Nashville, Indiana, the son of the late Isaac and Mary Jane (Hedger) Shipley.  

James married Frances Lydia Bradley on June 12, 1948, in Indianapolis; and they spent the next 67 years at each other’s side raising their wonderful family. 

James was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He retired from Chrysler Corp. in Indianapolis in 1985.

He attended Mooresville Community Church. He was a member of Mooresville American Legion Post 103 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7118 in Linton.

Surviving are three sons, Bruce (René) Shipley of Spartansburg, Pennsylvania, Daryl Shipley of Camby and Terry Shipley of Bargersville; a daughter, Lynda Durden of Mooresville; 10 grandchildren; nine great–grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances Lydia (Bradley) Shipley;​ five brothers; and nine sisters.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be at Duncan Cemetery in Nashville, Indiana.

Memorial contributions may be made to Riley Hospital for Children in care of the funeral home.
