Post office expands hours for holiday crush

Expect to see postal carriers in your neighborhood more often this holiday season.

Until Christmas, the U.S. Postal Service will deliver mail multiple times a day in some areas and will deliver packages on Sundays around central Indiana due to a greater volume of shipments, compared with last year, according to a news release.

“Every household in America relies on us to get their packages in home for the holidays, and we take great pride in taking on that responsibility,” Greater Indiana District Manager Larry Diegel said in the release.

Certain post offices, including locations in Southport and Greenwood, also will be open more hours to allow people to mail packages and gifts as the holiday approaches. Post offices at 1701 E. Edgewood Ave. in Indianapolis and 407 W. Smith Valley Road in Greenwood will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the two Sundays before Christmas, the release said.

“As we count down to the holidays, we know how stressful the season can be as we rush to get everything done on time,” Diegel said in the release.
