Ronald G. Ennis, 77, of Johnson County, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015, at his home.

Ron was born March 30, 1938, in Exchange, to John Marion and Catherine Jean (Shufflebarger) Ennis.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

He graduated from Southern Illinois University with an associate’s degree.

He was married to Caroline Joan Haywood Ennis for 39 years.

Ron was employed with Western Electric/AT&T as an engineer for 30-plus years, retiring in 1993.

Ron enjoyed cars of all types, especially his many 1932 Fords. He also was a hot rod and car racing enthusiast, starting back in his younger days with his brother, drag racing and sprint car racing. He was a member of the National Street Rod Association and several car clubs in Indiana.

He loved riding his motorcycle and hunting.

He is survived by his two children, John Ennis of Greenwood and Stephanie Estes of Bargersville; a sister, Martha Sue (Rod) Braden of Franklin, two brothers, Vincent Ennis of Franklin and Donald (Carol Lee) Ennis of Bargersville; and granddaughter, Angela Estes of Indianapolis.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Carol Ennis in 2013.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, 729 U.S. 31 North. A visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Bluff Creek Cemetery in Greenwood with military honors.
