Mabelline “Mabel” (Brewer) Couch, 76, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015, at her home in Brown County.

Mabel was born in Perry County, Kentucky, on March 12, 1939, to her parents, the late Herman and Nora (Tucker) Brewer.

She was a 1955 graduate of Leslie County High School in Leslie County, Kentucky.

Mabel went on to marry Charlie Couch on June 6, 1955, in Indianapolis. He preceded her in death on Oct. 13, 2008, after 53 devoted years of marriage.

Mabel retired in 2013 as a bar coder for For Bare Feet in Helmsburg after 16 years of service. After retirement, she worked in the Fudgery at The Apple Works in Trafalgar for the past several years.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of East Bernstadt, Kentucky.

Mabel enjoyed crocheting, working in her flower and vegetable gardens and feeding the birds. She was an avid reader of Nora Roberts and Danielle Steel novels and was a fan of the Home Shopping Network and Jewelry Television. Mabel will be remembered for homemade cooking, especially her fudge and biscuits ‘n’ gravy.

Mabel is survived by her children, Patty (Jim) Gushwa and Pam (Chuck) Frye both of Nineveh; siblings, Jeanitta Fugate of Hazard, Kentucky, Debbie (Carl Ray) Feltner and Teresa Hall, both of Corbin, Kentucky, Bonnie Couch of Nineveh and Roger (Jean) Brewer of Spearsville; sister-in-law, Peggy Brewer of London, Kentucky; grandchildren, Melissa Phillips, Shane (Shea) Frye, both of Nineveh, and Megan Gushwa of Columbus; and great-grandchildren, Dusty Phillips, Sierra Phillips and Cadance McGraw, all of Nineveh.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy and Tommy Brewer.

The Rev. Norm Brock will conduct a funeral service 1:30 p.m. Friday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St., Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery in Martinsville.
