Greenwood woman arrested on battery, neglect charges

A Greenwood woman was arrested after scratches and bruises were found on her children.

Julianna Mahurin, 27, 1327 Easy St., was arrested on three counts of neglect of a dependent and three counts of battery to a person less than 14 years old.

Police were called to a home in the 1300 block of Easy Street around 12 a.m. Tuesday, where Mahurin and her two children were staying. Mahurin’s mother confronted her after she found marks on one of the kids and later heard one of the children crying. One child said Mahurin had pulled her hair, and another said Mahurin hit him in the face, according to the police report.

Officers found bruising and scratches on the children. One child had a bite mark on her arm, the report said.

A breath test showed Mahurin had a blood-alcohol content of .20 percent, according to the report.

The children were left with a relative, and Mahurin was taken to the Johnson County jail, where she was held on $13,500 bond.
