Trojans star becomes an All-American

Daily Journal staff reports

Center Grove senior defensive tackle Jovan Swann has been named to the Semper Fidelis All-American Football Team.

By virtue of being selected, Swann will play in the Jan. 3 Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. The game will be televised at 9 p.m. on Fox Sports 1.

According to the U.S. Marine Corps, Semper Fidelis All-Americans are selected on the basis of being one of the nation’s highest-rated players, character, academic performance and leadership.

Swann is among 92 players nationwide selected for the honor. He was recognized at a ceremony at Center Grove High School on Thursday, where he was joined by his parents Mario Sr. and Jo Swann and was presented an All-American jersey.

“This is a great honor,” Swann said in a statement released by the school. “I’m thankful to be recognized for the work that I’ve put in and the morals that my parents have instilled in me. It’s a blessing.”

One of the nation’s most highly recruited players, Swann played a prominent role on the Trojans’ Class 6A state championship team. He had 64.5 tackles, including 54 solos and 16.5 for loss, and 6.5 sacks this season. He also broke up two passes.

Mulling a host of major NCAA Division I offers, Swann is expected to announce his college plans soon.
