Megan E. (Young) Cummings, 35, passed away all too soon on Thursday afternoon, Dec. 3, 2015, in Columbus. She was a resident of Morgantown and a former resident of Greenwood.

Megan was born in Columbus on May 30, 1980, to her parents, Steve and Sharon (Walker) Young.

She graduated from Indian Creek High School with honors in 1998. While in school, she was a member of the National Honor Society, played on the varsity girls basketball and track teams, and was the manager for the football team. Megan played on the winning Mid-Hoosier Athletic Conference Team for basketball and was the recipient of the ICHS Mental Attitude Award.

After graduation, Megan went on to receive her degree in elementary education in 2003 from IUPUI in Indianapolis. She took her talents to Southport Elementary School in 2003, where she taught until 2015. Megan was a dedicated teacher, mentor and received the Walmart Teacher of the Year award in 2006.

Megan will be remembered for her beautiful smile and big heart to her friends and family. She was known for her love of music, writing poetry and her ability to dance.

Megan is survived by her loving parents, Sharon (Frank) McIntosh and Steve (Cathy) Young, both of Morgantown. She will be remembered by her daughter, Emma Jean Cummings, and Emma’s father, Dennis Cummings, both of Greenwood; brother, Brandon (Hilary Grinstead) Young of Whiteland; aunt, Sis (Glen) Wilkerson of Morgantown; and uncles, Jerry (Linda) Young of Martinsville, Raymond (Sue) Young of Morgantown and Mike (Sherrie) Walker of Martinsville.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Melvin and Carol Walker, and paternal grandparents, David and Edith Young.

The Revs. Lee Snider and Burt Brock will conduct a funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St., Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
