The Christmas season gets an official Johnson County welcome this weekend with events planned as part of the Franklin Holiday Lighting.
Activities and traditions include the courthouse lighting, a Christmas movie at the Artcraft Theatre, live music, performances, free kids activities and more.
Here’s what’s planned for a full day of events on Saturday.
7:30 a.m.: Registration for Jingle Jog 5K Run/Walk & 1-Mile Family Fun Walk at the Cultural Arts & Recreation Center, 396 Branigin Blvd. The race begins at 8:30 a.m.

2 p.m.: “A Christmas Story” at the Artcraft Theatre
2 to 4 p.m.: Live Reindeer at Marshmallow Monkey
1:30 to 4:30 p.m.: Visits with Santa at the Johnson County Museum of History
2 to 8 p.m.: Winter Market at the Elks on Jefferson Street
3 to 7 p.m.: Cookie contest at Mutual Savings Bank, 80 E. Jefferson St. Must preregister.
4 p.m.: Concert at First Presbyterian Church
4:30 to 5 p.m.: JCPL story time with Mrs. Claus at Mutual Savings Bank
4:30 p.m.: Melchior Marionettes at Tabernacle Christian Church
5:30 p.m.: Lighted parade
6 to 8 p.m.: Entertainment on Stage on North Main Street
6 p.m.: Carriage and bus rides at the courthouse
6 to 7 p.m.: Cookie contest winners displayed and Johnson County Public Library kids activities at Mutual Savings Bank
6 p.m.: Lighting of ground displays at the Indiana Masonic Home
6:30 to 9 p.m.: Santa Shack open
7 p.m.: Lighting of the courthouse holiday display
7:30 p.m. “A Christmas Story” at the Artcraft Theatre
