Police: 2 stole $1,900 in clothing from outlet mall

Two Indianapolis women were arrested Sunday after more than $1,900 worth of clothing was taken from stores at a local mall, police said.

Lisa York, 52, and Amber Meals, 31, were arrested after police stopped their car on Interstate 65.

Meals was arrested on a charge of driving a vehicle while having a suspended license with a prior conviction, the report said. York, 3014 N. Ruckle Ave., was arrested on a charge of theft.

They were shopping at Polo Ralph Lauren at Edinburgh Premium Outlets around 6:20 p.m. Sunday when Meals went back to her car to get more money to pay for their items, according to a police report from the Edinburgh Police Department.

Instead, Meals pulled her car up to the store entrance, and York walked out with a shopping bag full of clothing that she did not pay for, the report said. The store’s security alarms went off as York walked through the doors, the report said.

The store employees gave police officers a vehicle description, and a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office deputy found the car driving north on Interstate 65, the report said. The officer stopped the car and found stolen merchandise in the back seat, according to a report from the sheriff’s office.

Police found merchandise from Polo Ralph Lauren, Gap, Nike and Carter’s, according to police reports.

York was taken to the Bartholomew County jail and was held on $7,500 bond. Meals, 4103 Balboa St., was released from the Johnson County jail after paying $250 cash bond.
