Martha Ann Wilborn

BROWN COUNTY

She was born in Kokomo on Feb. 21, 1935, to the late Fred David and Opal Cynthia (Bauer) Windle.

Martha grew up and attended school in Licking, Missouri, and later moved back to Indiana, where she attended and was a cheerleader for Eastern Howard High School in Kokomo.

She met her husband, Elmer Cole Wilborn, on a blind date; and both knew from the start that their romance would last a lifetime. Martha and Elmer were married on June 21, 1952, at Martha’s parents’ home in Beech Grove. He preceded her in death on Feb. 24, 2015, after 62 devoted years of marriage.

Martha was a loving mother and homemaker. In her younger years, she worked as a hostess and cook in the Riley Room of Wm. H. Block Co. department store downtown Indianapolis. Prior to that, she worked the counter at the G.C. Murphy store in Fountain Square.

Her passion for cooking led her to use her skills to feed many baseball players at the Bolen Missouri Baseball Camp. She and her husband also ran the kitchen in the baseball camp in Winter Haven, Florida.

Martha was a former member of Midway Baptist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, painting, growing flowers and reading, especially her Bible.

Martha is survived by two children, Jennifer Whetstine and Mark (Nancy) Wilborn, both of Brown County; brother, Larry David (Shirley) Windle of Greenwood; 16 grandchildren, Jason, Heath (Pam), Matthew (Tonie), Nichole, Sophia, Christine, Katherine, Joshua, Andrew, Kyle, Robert, Philip, Justin, Misty, Angela and Shannon; and 21 great-grandchildren, Jason Jr., Jennifer, Heath Jr., Rebecca, Sean, Dalton, Olivia, Darryl, Alexis, Jessica, Michael, Mark, Maddilyn, Aubrey, Timothy, Joseph, Ariannah, Ashtin, Anthony, Kaiden and Cooper.

Martha was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Opal Lasley; two sons, Timothy Cole and Fred David Wilborn; granddaughters, Heather Lasley and Angel Wilborn; and siblings, Jean Koch, Violet Ronk, Jack Windle, Larry Windle and Cynthia Cook.

The Rev. Burt Brock will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St., Morgantown.
