Work at gas station halted due to noise issue

Crews working on a new gas station at Worthsville and Sheek roads stopped construction on Tuesday morning after a resident called police.

Randy Goodin, who lives in Central Park right next to the construction site, called police just before 5 a.m. Tuesday complaining about construction crews working, according to the police report. The city of Greenwood’s municipal code allows construction only between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Goodin said crews used loud machinery and a generator to power a spotlight. The work started before 5 a.m. Monday and Tuesday, Goodin said.

When police arrived, the construction crew members said they would stop working, according to the police report.

Construction crews have to abide by noise rules in the city’s code, city attorney Krista Taggart said.
