A 5K planned this weekend in downtown Franklin will benefit a weekend food program for local low-income families.
The Hunger Heroes Run Against Hunger is a 5K Run/Walk and a 1-mile walk, planned for Saturday.
All proceeds will go to the weekend BackSacks program for children in Johnson County. BackSacks is a Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana initiative that gives children in Grades K through 6 a BackSack filled with enough shelf-stable food to feed them through the weekend.
Each Friday, Gleaners distributes BackSacks to over 300 children in Johnson County.
Pre-registration and packet pick-up will be available from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Nov. 20 and 7 to 9 a.m. Nov. 21 at the Artcraft Theatre, 57 N Main St., Franklin. The race will begin at 9 a.m. on the south side of the Johnson County courthouse. Registration is $10 for kids and $20 for adults.
Awards and refreshments will be available after the race.
