Dean L. Skinner

FRANKLIN

Dean L. Skinner, 77, passed away Monday evening, Nov. 16, 2015, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. He was a resident of Franklin.

Dean was born in Morgantown on Aug. 17, 1938, to his parents, the late Ralph R. and Mona O. (McCoy) Skinner.

He was a 1956 graduate of Morgantown High School, where he played on the 1956 sectional-winning basketball team.

Dean married his high school sweetheart, Myrna D. (Pogue) Skinner, on June 26, 1958, at Morgantown Baptist Church. She survives after 57 devoted years of marriage.

Dean also is survived by his loving daughter, Deana McMurray of Nineveh; grandchildren, T.J. (Courtney) McMurray and Shannon (Jason) Sims, both of Bloomington, and Ben (Leslie) McMurray of Trafalgar; and great-grandchildren, Sophia, Henry, Lucy and Caden.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Doris Hickman, and Kirk and Leon Skinner.

Dean retired in 1999 as a crane operator with the Local 103 Operating Engineers Union in Indianapolis after 55 years of service.

He was a member of Mount Nebo Church in Martinsville and a former member of Morgantown Baptist Church. He was also a past master and former member of the Ossian Masonic Lodge No. 297, and member of Mizpah Shriners in Fort Wayne, Franklin Eastern Star No. 439 and Nineveh Masonic Lodge No. 317.

He enjoyed watching girls basketball, flying his plane and playing his guitar for church and local nursing homes.

The Rev. Lee Snider will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. Thursday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St., Morgantown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
