Added warnings signs installed on State Road 135

New signs will be installed along State Road 135 in southern Johnson County to alert motorists about upcoming crossroads.

Crossroad warning signs will be installed at the intersections of 2 Cent Road, County Road 100N, County Road 100S and Division Road, said Harry Maginity, a spokesman for the Indiana Department of Transportation. Intersection warning signs already have been installed for County Road 300S, near Trafalgar.

The signs are being installed after residents who live in those areas raised concerns with INDOT about safety and the potential for accidents at those intersections with State Road 135.

Johnson County resident Lance Fischer contacted the state in August to ask for a flashing light at the County Road 300S intersection. Many drivers come up on the intersection without even realizing it, and traffic becomes an issue on Sunday mornings, when residents are leaving nearby Fair Haven Church, he said.

State officials responded that they wouldn’t install a flashing light but would install “intersection ahead” signs instead, in addition to reflective signs before and after the guardrails, Fischer said.

The signs were installed after an investigation proved that advanced warning of the intersections along State Road 135 would be a safety benefit to motorists, Maginity said.
