American Legion hosting walk for veterans

The American Legion will host a Walk for Veterans fundraiser in Franklin on Monday.

Leading the Walk will be Johnson County native and Whiteland Community High School graduate Dale Barnett, who was named American Legion National Commander. He will be accompanied by Department of Indiana Commander Larry Lowry.

The walk will begin at 3:15 p.m. Monday. The length of the walk will be approximately 1.5 miles and will start at 66 S. Water St., Franklin, continue through downtown and end at the same location.

After the walk, Barnett and Lowry will visit Legion Post 205 in Franklin for dinner and a reception until 8 p.m. The post is at 1200 Park Ave.

Barnett is touring each state and walking in cities across the country during his term as national commander to raise awareness for veterans’ issues including suicide, traumatic brain injury and post traumatic stress disorder, according to a news release from the American Legion.
