Man arrested after breaking apartment door

A Johnson County man was arrested after police said he choked a dog, broke down a bedroom door and kicked two officers early Wednesday.

John Eugene Jones, 47, went into an apartment on Franklin Place Court at 2 a.m. after his ex-girlfriend repeatedly told him to leave, according to a police report from the Franklin Police Department.

The ex-girlfriend told police she hid in a bedroom and locked the door. Jones kicked down the door, damaging the wall, then grabbed her by the arm, the police report said.

Police were called to the apartment, and Jones was found sitting on a mattress with a small dog in his hands. When officers asked him to leave the apartment, he cursed and yelled at them, the police report said.

When officers tried to arrest Jones, he refused to let go of the dog and started choking the animal. Another officer had to pry the animal out of Jones’ hands, the report said.

Jones, 5351 U.S. 31 South, Franklin, was arrested on charges of residential entry, battery, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, resisting law enforcement and torturing an animal.

He was taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was being held on $7,600 bond.
