Accident forces closing of bridge near Morgantown

After a vehicle struck a bridge, a portion of State Road 135 south of Morgantown is closed indefinitely.

The bridge over Indian Creek, just south of Morgantown, was damaged when a vehicle with a lift or tower struck the top, Indiana Department of Transportation spokesman Harry Maginity said. The crash caused a break in part of the top of the bridge, he said.

That forced the bridge to be closed immediately so the state can analyze the damage, according to a news release.

Officials do not know when the bridge can be reopened, Maginity said.

Traffic is being detoured to other routes, including State Road 252, Interstate 65, U.S. 31 and State Road 46, the release said.
