Thieves break into five homes, steal wiring

Five homes under construction in a Greenwood subdivision were broken into and had wiring and a heater stolen within the last week.

Four of the homes that were stolen from are located on newly-created Southward Drive, and one of the homes is on Northward Court in the Preserve at South Lake subdivision, according to Greenwood police reports.

Copper wiring was stolen from three homes on Southward Drive, and a water heater and furnace were taken from a model home on the same street.

The home builder contracted through Ryland Homes of Indianapolis reported the thefts to the Greenwood Police Department on Monday. The thefts happened over the weekend, but the home builder discovered all of the items stolen on Monday morning.

The neighborhood southeast of Worthsville and Sheek roads includes about 220 homes, but Ryland plans to build another 200 houses in the next five years.
