Local bands won gold and earned a top-three finish at weekend competition.
The Blue Regiment of Franklin Community High School and the Marching Braves of Indian Creek High School both earned gold at the Indiana State School Music Association scholastic preliminaries at Plainfield High School.
Both will march in the scholastic state finals at Lawrence Central High School on Oct. 24.
Whiteland Community High School’s Marching Warriors had what their director called the best performance of the year, which earned the group a gold rating with distinction at the invitational at Plainfield. The group also earned caption awards in music and general effect.
The Marching Woodmen and Irish Guard of Greenwood Community High School finished third in Class B at Center Grove High School’s annual Cavalcade of Champions. Center Grove’s Marching Trojans marched in exhibition at its own invitational.
