Association to honor retired library leader

Recently retired Johnson County Public Library Director Beverly Martin will be honored Nov. 17 with a lifetime achievement award at the Indiana Library Federation’s annual banquet.

Martin began working at JCPL in 1987 after working for more than 15 years as a

librarian, a school librarian and a branch manager in Indianapolis and in Ohio. In Johnson County, she oversaw the construction of four new branch locations and an administration building.

Under her leadership, more than 20 library staff members completed the library’s Leadership Academy, a

leadership development course. According to a statement from the federation, she helped the county library system navigate challenging financial times without accumulating debt, laying off staff or reducing hours.

She served on the federation’s joint executive board and as president. She also chaired the legislative committee for many years, providing guidance and making several appearances before the state legislature, and served on the national level on American Library Association committees.
