Food bank plans chili cook-off

Nothing beats a good, meaty chili on an October weekend — unless it’s the chance to try a bowl from some of the best restaurants in the area.

The Interchurch Food Pantry of Johnson County will host its annual chili cook-off and silent auction fundraiser from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Mount Auburn United Methodist Church, 3100 Stones Crossing Road, Greenwood.

Diners will have the chance to sample chili from 11 restaurants. People will vote for the winner and get to eat as many bowls of their favorite as they wish.

All proceeds benefit the Interchurch Food Pantry, with the money going to buy food to feed local families. A silent auction also will help generate funds to operate the pantry.

The cook-off is $10 per person, which includes chili, desserts and drinks. Children 5 and under eat free. Cash and checks only for dinner and silent auction purchases.

Participants are also encouraged to bring donations of non-perishable food items, such as canned soup, boxed meals and peanut butter, to the event.
