John D. Tracy

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla.

John D. Tracy, 72, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, passed away Sept. 28, 2015, at the Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler in Edgewater, Florida. He was a former longtime resident of Greenwood.

John was born on July 23, 1943, in Paducah, Kentucky, to the late John E. and Eunice (Wise) Tracy. John was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He always had a special place in his heart for the underdog which led him into a 30 year career as a labor leader for the UFCW and a mentor for those with special needs.

After retiring in 1994, he drove a school bus for Greenwood Community Schools for 10 years.

He enjoyed riding motorcycles, traveling, and spending time with his family. John was a lifelong animal lover and had a great sense of humor.

He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Vicki L. Tracy of New Smyrna Beach; daughter, Dee Dee Tobe; three sons, John A. Tracy (Monica), Stephen Tracy (Angela), and Shane Tracy; one daughter, Tara Tracy; step-daughter, Leslie Roberts; one sister, Linda Traugott (Gene); one sister, Pamela Baker (David); seven grandchildren, Amanda, Breanna, Austin, Ethan, Ella, Evan, and Lydia; three great-grandchildren and his beloved dog, Zoe.

John was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Tammy Tracy.

A memorial service will take place be at 7 p.m. Thursday, at Wilson St.Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, 481 W. Main St., with calling from 6 p.m. until the time of service.
