County auditor attends development meeting

Johnson County Auditor Pamela J. Burton was one of 500 county officials and employees who attended the Association of Indiana Counties annual conference in late September in LaPorte County.

The conference gave county officials a variety of professional development courses as well as opportunities to network with peers. Topics addressed at the conferences included the future of road funding, federal health care reform’s effect on counties, government ethics, trends in assessed value, criminal justice reform and others.

Pediatrician, surgeon join physician network

Johnson Memorial Physicians Network recently hired two new doctors.

Dr. Amanda Jackson is now seeing patients at Franklin Pediatrics, 1101 W. Jefferson St., Suite T.

Jackson completed her medical degree at the Indiana University School of Medicine in 2011 and her pediatric residency at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee, in 2014. She was a Lilly Community Foundation Scholar while completing her undergraduate degree at Taylor University and an Indiana State Medical Association Scholar during medical school.

She most recently served as a pediatrician in the emergency department at Niswonger Children’s Hospital in Johnson City. She also served as an emergency department extern at Franciscan St. Francis Health while she was in medical school.

Dr. James K. Cole, an orthopedic spine surgeon, is now accepting new patients at 1159 W. Jefferson St., Suite 304, Franklin.

Cole is a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon specializing in cervical, thoracic and lumbar surgery. His expertise covers a variety of spinal diagnoses with non-operative and operative methods.

Cole received his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University. He received his medical degree at East Tennessee State University and his internship in general surgery and residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Kentucky. Cole then completed a fellowship in neck and spine surgery at Tulane University Medical Center.
