Man faces forgery, theft charges

An Edinburgh man was charged with forgery and theft after police found other people’s identification in his vehicle.

In late July, an officer with the Edinburgh Police Department was driving behind Shannon Scott Lucas, 23, 8955 W. Delchar N. Drive, and knew that Lucas had his license suspended for driving without insurance.

Police found three state ID cards with three different names, a social security card, a money order slip with another name on it and a check from an attorney in Indianapolis in Lucas’ pants pockets. Lucas told police people gave him the ID cards and social security card, but officers checked and all the cards had been reported stolen, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Lucas told police he had written the check to himself and forged the signature of an Indianapolis attorney. But when he went to a check cashing business, he decided against it since he knew the business would call the attorney to confirm the check, the affidavit said.

Lucas was recently brought back to Johnson County after facing charges in another county. He is being held in the Johnson County jail without bond.
