Crew hits gas line; Greenwood street closed

Crews working in a field hit a gas line Tuesday, closing Fry Road between U.S. 31 and State Road 135 in Greenwood for about three hours.

American Utility Corp. was digging and hit an unmarked gas line, Greenwood Fire Chief James Sipes said.

The crews hit the line just after noon Tuesday. The area was cleared until 4 p.m., when Vectren got the gas shut off so repairs could be made and Fry Road was reopened, Sipes said.

The gas line was not marked because it was an old service line to the city’s former sanitation plant, he said.
