New Kroger set to open this week

A new, larger grocery store is set to open on the southside this week.

The new Kroger Marketplace at County Line Road and Emerson Avenue joins four new grocery stores set to open on the southside and in Johnson County over the next few years.

The Marketplace store opening Thursday is part of a new line of stores Kroger is opening around Indiana. The store will include groceries but also will have items such as furniture and clothing.

Kroger already has a store at the intersection, across the street from the new store, but the new building will be twice as large.

Along with the southside location, a new Marketplace store will open in Franklin and a new Kroger is planned in the Center Grove area at Smokey Row Road and State Road 135. Kroger also plans to renovate its location in Greenwood near U.S. 31 and Independence Drive.

The new stores will join planned locations by Meijer in Franklin and a new Costco off County Line Road on the southside. In the past few years, a new Walmart and Aldi opened off State Road 135, and organic stores Fresh Thyme and Earth Fare opened near County Line Road and U.S. 31 on the southside.
