Area woman’s death under investigation

A Greenwood woman who died unexpectedly Friday will be remembered by her family for her caring and loving personality.

Katherine Wallace, 32, pictured, died Friday afternoon after collapsing at Indiana Dunes State Park in Chesterton. She was camping with her family to celebrate her mom’s birthday, mother Jill Wallace said.

An autopsy was performed Monday, and Jill Wallace hopes that will show why or how Wallace died, she said. An investigation by the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore conservation officers also is underway.

Wallace had battled health-related issues for years, Jill Wallace said. She declined to discuss details of her daughter’s health issues.

Wallace had earned a degree in social work from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, and worked in the field for a few years, but had to stop due to her health issues, Jill Wallace said.

Most recently, Wallace had been working part time at a Greenwood pharmacy, Jill Wallace said. She also was a Mary Kay salesperson and attended Vineyard Community Church in Greenwood.

Donations can be made in Wallace’s memory to the Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County, 3489 E. County Road 100S, Warsaw, IN, 46580. Wallace’s dog Darla had been rescued by the Animal Welfare League before she adopted the pet, Jill Wallace said.
