Brian Keith Vaughn, 51, a lifelong resident of North Vernon, passed away at 3:42 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 2015, at his home.

Brian was born Jan. 3, 1964, at the Jackson County Schneck Memorial Hospital in Seymour. He was the son of Ray E. and Karen R. (Stout) Vaughn, who both survive in North Vernon.

Brian graduated from Jennings County High School in North Vernon in 1982 and entered the U.S. Navy one week after graduating.

He served in the U.S. Navy for eight years, serving on the nuclear submarines USS Houston, USS Dace and USS Philadelphia.

He recently worked for Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Co. as a boiler inspector.

Brian most recently was serving as president since 2003 of the Pioneer Engineers Club of Indiana Inc. in Rushville.

He enjoyed classical music, playing chess and reading and was very passionate about steam engines. He purchased his first Keck Gonnerman Steam Engine in 1989, which he was extremely proud of.

Other survivors include a brother, Jonathan L. (Stephanie) Vaughn of North Vernon; and two nephews, Austin Hunter and Mason Cole Vaughn, both of North Vernon.

He was preceded in death by five uncles, Steven Vaughn, Logan Vaughn, Lowell Stout, Stanley Stout and Paul Stout; and his grandparents, Harold and Edna Vaughn and Basil and Elnor Stout.

The Rev. Richard Burcham will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Adams Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 101 E. Howard St. in Crothersville. Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Crothersville Cemetery.
