An Amity area couple lost $1,900 in a scam that has been reported at least twice in Johnson County.
The couple bought a four-wheeler off an online auction site this month. The seller told them to buy PayPal cash cards to pay for the four-wheeler, according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
They entered the card numbers onto an online form and received a message from the seller that the four-wheeler would be shipped, the report said.
But this week, the couple learned of another Johnson County man who had been scammed out of about $2,000 in a similar incident, which had been reported to the sheriff’s office.
The couple are working with the website to try to get their money back, the report said.
