Thomas L. ‘Tom’ Smith

Thomas L. “Tom” Smith, age 66, passed away all too soon on Thursday evening, September 3, 2015, at his home in southern Brown County.

He was born in Franklin on June 18, 1949, to his parents, the late James and Dorothy (Haggard) Smith. Tom was a 1967 graduate of Trafalgar High School and went on to retire in 2007 as a Heavy Equipment Operator for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 103 in Indianapolis after 38 years of service.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen M. “Kathy” (Gallup) Smith, whom he married on March 20, 2003, in Nashville. Tom will be remembered by his children, Jamie (Debbie) Smith of Bargersville, Heather (Gary) Barger and Tony (Amanda) Smith both of Morgantown, Katelyn Conley of Bloomington and Kelsey Conley of Brown County; siblings, Almedia Clark of Trafalgar, Patsy Clark of Morgantown, Eva Ann Chilman of Commiskey and Betty Jo Lockhart of Greenwood; and grandchildren, Cieara, Jessica, Harlee, Julia, Justin, Bryce, Brayden and Maggie.

Tom was preceded in death by siblings, Phyllis Doty and James Smith.

He enjoyed the outdoors by working in his garden, hunting for deer and raccoons and always looked forward to his annual trip to Kansas with his children and grandchildren to rabbit hunt.

Tom loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and his dogs, Rascal and Brownie. He was a fan of Indiana University men’s basketball.

The Rev. Ed Tharpe will conduct a funeral service at 7 p.m. today  at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.
