Vernon Lee Roberts

GREENWOOD

Vernon Lee Roberts, 85, passed away Friday, Aug. 28, 2015, in Avon. He was a resident of Greenwood.

Vernon was born Sept. 22, 1929, in Dossville, Mississippi, to Edward Lee and Annie Mae (Treadwell) Roberts.

He married Lois Jean (Royalty) Roberts on July 11, 1953, in Scottsburg.

He was a master sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was a self-employed storm window contractor for 30 years, retiring in 1980.

Vernon was a member of First Baptist Church of Greenwood.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, walking, traveling, woodworking and old cars.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Lois Jean Roberts of Greenwood; three children, Dennis Roberts of Clayton, Beth (Michael) Steele of Brownsburg and Greg Roberts of Monrovia; six grandchildren, Matt (Kristen) Roberts, Wesley Steele, Katy (Renny) Esser, Brett Steele, Dean (Kara) Roberts and Jadon Roberts; and three great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Steele, Logan Steele and Nora Esser and a fourth on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, 729 U.S 31 North. Friends and family may call 5 to 7p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
