Mattress shop moving into former restaurant

A new business will take over a former restaurant property along State Road 135.

Thomas English Retail Real Estate will build a 4,000-square-foot retail building after the vacant Einstein Brothers Bagels building is torn down at Main Street and State Road 135. After the new building has been completed, a mattress shop will move in, Greenwood planning director Bill Peeples said.

The company would not comment on which mattress company will be moving into the new building once it’s built.

Part of the demolition includes removing the drive-thru and putting a sidewalk all the way around the new building, plan commission member John Shell said.

The former bagel shop has sat vacant since April 2014 when the company closed that location.

Thomas English Retail Real Estate has to get construction plans on file with the city, pay construction and permit fees, and go to the Greenwood Board of Works before they can begin work. They could begin the project as early as next month, Peeples said.
