Margaret Whitaker

Margaret (Stanley) Whitaker, 80, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, Aug. 23, 2015, at the Franklin United Methodist Community. She was a resident of Morgantown.

Margaret was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on Nov. 5, 1934, to her parents, the late Adrian and Sarah Marie (Peery) Stanley.

She was a 1952 graduate of Honey Creek High School and went on to earn her nursing degree from Union Hospital School of Nursing and Indiana State University in Terre Haute.

Margaret married Rawlins I. Whitaker on Feb. 4, 1956, in Terre Haute. He lovingly survives after 59 devoted years of marriage.

She also is survived by her children, Susan (Chris) Parker and David Whitaker, both of Morgantown; brother, Richard (Carol) Stanley of Connersville; and brother-in-law, Les (Marilyn) Whitaker of Clermont, Florida. Margaret will be remembered by her grandchildren, Daniel Parker of Minneapolis, Lara Parker of Los Angeles and Rebecca Whitaker and Ethan Whitaker, both of Morgantown.

Margaret retired in 1996 as the school nurse for Indian Creek schools in Trafalgar after 29 years of service. Prior to that, she worked as a surgical nurse at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin for eight years.

She was the church organist and a 58-year member of the Morgantown United Methodist Church, where she also was a former Sunday school teacher.

Margaret was also a member of the Indiana Association of School Nurses and was a former board member of the Morgan County Red Cross.

Margaret enjoyed the outdoors by walking and cutting wood and mushroom hunting on their farm. She also enjoyed cross-stich and needlepoint and was known for her delicious baked goods.

The Rev. Jill Howard will conduct a celebration of life service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Morgantown United Methodist Church, 20 E. Washington St., Morgantown. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
