Bridge replacement prompts U.S. 31 shift

If U.S. 31 is part of your daily commute, be prepared for a change.

Starting today, traffic will be shifted across the highway near Pushville Road, where workers have been replacing a bridge.

Northbound traffic will be shifted across the highway into the southbound lanes. That will put four lanes of traffic on the southbound side of the highway, according to a news release from the Indiana Department of Transportation.

Workers will remove and replace the drainage structure on the east side of the highway after traffic has been shifted.

That work is expected to take about four weeks, the release said.

The nearly $1.3 million project has been ongoing this summer, at the same time as construction on Interstate 65.

Some commuters have been taking U.S. 31 as an alternative to I-65. The highway has also been used as an alternate route when I-65 has been shut down due to accidents.
