Learn more about finding your roots

The Johnson County Museum of History is hosting an event that will bring a bit of local history alive in an interesting and chilling way. Then you can learn about how better to explore your own family’s history.

Genealogy Day at the Museum will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 22 at the museum, 135 N. Main St., Franklin.

The event will feature several speakers, including Judith Nickels, author of “A Competent Witness,” a companion novel to “Devil in the White City.” Nickels chronicles the story of Johnson County resident Georgianna Yoke, and the trial where she testified against her husband, H.H. Holmes, who often has been called the first American serial killer.

Other presenters will discuss cemetery laws in Indiana and give instructions on how to use Ancestry.com.

Registration is $5, which includes lunch. The deadline for registration is Aug. 19. Call 346-4500 or email [email protected] for reservations or more information.
